About

I had worked for several years with clay before discovering the beauty of encaustic, a combination of beeswax and tree resin. I began using beeswax mostly because it's a natural, unprocessed medium. It is translucent, it has body, it's reworkable and it's sculptural. I adore the meditative and sensory experience of working with wax.

As an artist, I am constantly experimenting and playing with the possibilities and the boundaries of my materials. I dye egg shells, burn paper, play with shellac and pigment and add layers of wax to create luminous and textured surfaces.

The unpredictable nature of encaustic when exposed to heat captivates me. The mystery of how the wax, pigment and mixed media will interact - meld or repel - is enthralling. I hope to pull the viewer into these works, to see their beauty from a distance and then to experience their layered and textured surfaces up close.

I am inspired by Nature  and our relationship to it - from the vastness of our universe to the fragments of what we leave behind.
